Ancient Canals on the Sun Coast?

A Central Florid? man b?lieves he has discovered what's left of a hig?ly ?dvanced ancient civilizati?n by using some n?w technology, and sa?s some of th? e?idence is right here on the Suncoast.

"Looking further, I begin to find the ?eal beauty in Cortez." Jo?n Jensen is no archaeologist. He says he's just an am?tuer researcher ?f what's und?r t?e water. Well, what ?e sa?s he's observed from th? sk? ?ould rewrite t?e history ?f the ?orld. "I recognize s?me patterns that a?pear to be man-made, or at le?st not natural."

He's identified mor? than 60 sites ?n places like Louisiana, N?w Jerse? and Florida ?s what h? calls anci?nt channels, canals, and harbors. A handful a?e fr?m Tampa d?wn to Ft. Myers, in?luding one in Englewood and one around Cortez ?n Manatee County. "Th?re's ? horseshoe ?ith a circle in the center of it, and oth?r lines around ?t that suggest that th?y're n?t natural."

Jensen s?ys th? sites are now about five feet underwater, and says ther? are underwater banks and edges whi?h indicate they were bu?lt befo?e the sea level ris? si? to seven thousand yea?s ago. "That's th? res?lt of t?e ?rocess of digging ?bove wate?, is to dump the ?efuse on the b?nk bes?de it."

"They definit?ly were modify?ng their environment. A canal syste? or harbor system is not t?at unth?nkable at all." Jodi Prac?t is the Archaeologist for Sarasota County. She says our area has som? of the ?ldest evidence ?f human inhabitance ?n all ?f North Ameri?a, dating back between 10,000 and 12,000 years.

As fa? ?s Jensen's claims s?e's not ?o su?e. "At t?e ye?rs this gentl?man is talking about, and th? l?vel of modification...th? s?ience d?es n?t support that."

At places like the Indian Mound ?ark in Englewood t?ere i? ev?dence people lived her? an awfully long tim? ?go. However Jensen say? his evidence suggests it's mu?h bigger then ?e ever thought. "(The diggings) probably were not made by ?ome folks we?ring leather b?ckskins, ?reechcloths and baskets on their heads."

Jensen sa?s the w?dths of some of th? underwater wate?ways are larg?r than the P?nama Canal -- ?omething whi?h wo?ld have required some ser?ous innovation. "Underw?ter sunken syste?s th?t requi?e technolog? to produc? that i? bey?nd or at least eq?ivalent to what we have today."

Jensen say? he h?s uncovered ?ome of the sites in ?ust the pa?t few months; perhaps f?nding ?omething experts ha?e yet to even see, let alone atte?pt to explain...at least for now. "The science ?s ve?y conservative. There is pr?bably ? lot ?ore going on ?ut there than as a p?ofessional y?u wo?ld ?gree with out loud," sa?s Pracht.

Naturally occur?ing o? m?n made? Ho? about fro? s?mething not human ?t all? Jen?en say? ?e doe?n't know, but perhaps the answers a?e just beyond t?e ?ater's edg?. "Depth reading and c?re samples ?ill absolutel? rewrite everything w? ?now about history."

Jensen s?ys his work and h?s theories ar? c?tching on. H?s website, which he says h? make? no money on, ?s now receiving ?ore t?an 25,000 hits ? month.
