“Ere many generations pass, our machinery will be driven by power obtainable at any point in the universe...it is a mere question of time when men will succeed in attaching their machinery to the very wheel work of nature."
- Nikola Tesla
The term Zero Point Energy (ZPE) is based on the concept that even if matter were cooled down to absolute zero (minus 273 degrees C), an electromagnetic energy field would still remains. The Dutch physicist M.J. Sparnaay postulated the existence of zero point electromagnetic energy in 1958. Mr. Sparnaay conducted experiments which seemed to indicate a force occurring between two uncharged plates when electromagnetic energy was applied to plates in a vacuum. ZPE is homogeneous extending in all direction and exist in a vacuum. It is postulated that ZPE is energy in the high frequency bandwidth of the electromagnetic spectrum in the range of 10+E17 hertz. Since the intensity of the energy at any frequency is proportional to the cube of that frequency then the intensity increases without limit as the frequency increases, resulting in an infinite energy density. If this theory is correct then it implies some very interesting possibilities.
Endless possibilities. If one assumes that the Universe is filled with ZPE. One must wonder how does this energy interact with matter? Some scientists believe that matter forms directly from ZPE based on the resonant frequency of the energy in question. This implies that life arises from ZPE. The mass energy of the Universe is some how balanced and an equilibrium is maintained. Matter in the Universe is in communication with matter in the Universe.
