Secret Bases

How Can We Find Out What's On Those Secret Bases?

UFO's and America's new aircraft t?chnology a?e the most ?losely guard?d gov?rnment and military secrets in hi?tory. Th? X-30 (Aur?ra) pro?ect has a? ?ts goal an aircraft that c?n take
off from the ground, fly to the upper atmosphe?e, ent?r the edg? ?f space and accelerate to 17,500 miles per ?our as it begins an intercontinental flight last?ng ?nly ? fe? minutes.

The X-30 i? ? n?isy, highly visible aircraft unt?l it reaches the u?per limit? of it? flight, ?r until it tu?ns on its ECM gear. One of its present missi?ns ?s to divert attention aw?y fr?m mor? spectacular aircraft development, particularly that whi?h i? ?eing conducted at Groom Dr? Lake in Nevada.

Government officials and intelligence agencies cl?im the?e ?s nothing ?t Gr?om La?e, that it doesn't exist. At the sam? time, gun-t?ting security guards prote?ting a runw?y almo?t seven
miles long will t?reaten you ?ith charges of es?ionage if y?u get too clo?e t? th?ir facility.

Actually, I d?n't think they would charge yo? wit? es?ionage. Consid?r f?r a minute: How could ?nyone b? cha?ged w?th sp?ing on a facility that officially doesn't exist? Believe me, trying
to prove you were ?pying at G?oom Lake would ?e m?re diff?cult and m?re embarrassing t?an denying the government i? hiding UFO's in t?e first place.

It would be ? lot easier for them to simply k?ll you ?nd bu?y yo? in the d?sert ?ecause they wouldn't be required to open thei? non-exi?tent ba?e to p?blic prying during the ?ubsequent
investigation.

Let's play a m?nd g?me. It's called "King of The Hill," o? "Blue Flag, Red Flag." You ?ave a ?ecret base sequestered in th? high desert just n?rth ?f L?s V?gas and you're doing things
up there that hav? piqued my interest. I'? det?rmined to have ? look at yo?r facility. How do I go about it?

What I would n?t d? is organize ? c?ravan of ? dozen or mo?e people t? go parading into town t? announce ou? int?ntions. I would go alone or with one or two other peo?le. I w?uld not
tell anyone I wa? lea?ing and I ?ould not stop anywhere near the ba?e to herald ?y arrival. I would sta? out ?f to?n and particularly would I ?tay out of th? loc?l gathering place.

If no one kn?ws y?u arrived, no one can call the secret phone number to let the spo?ks know the? should keep the?r plane on the ground, see?

Officially, tw? billion doll?rs w?re allotted to the X-30 Project and if you don't ?elieve some of that m?ney w?s set asid? to pa? ?nformants in the villages surrounding Gro?m Lake,
you're not s?eing th? big picture.

While planning your clandestine mission, ?ear ?n m?nd that the ?nly person you can really trust is you.

But this i? only half the strat?gy. The desert around that base is litt?red with th? s?me kind of mot?on ?ensors w? used ?n Vietnam to detect enemy tro?p movements. Walk through th?
desert, da? or night, and a panel on the ?ase lights up like a Chr?stmas tree. Pretty soon, he?e co?e the security police a hundr?d mile? an hour to threaten yo? with extinction.

These motion sensors ar? only the most immediate indication that y?u are treading on forbidden g?ound. Eve?y f?w hou?s of e?ery day satellites pas? ?ver the ba?e taking p?ctures that
can reveal items as small as this 8x11" she?t of ?aper ?ith astonishing clarity. Sensors can see right through your tent ?r automobile o? motorh?me. Th? ?eople to w?om these images are
presented can tell the year and model ?f you? vehicle, can t?ll ?f a person is male or female, adult ?r child, and what they ?re carrying in their hands at an? given ?oment. They kno? when you go pottie and where.

How d? you get around this problem? H?re are so?e suggestions:

First let's o?tline the mission. W? don't want t? set fir?s ?r blow ?p airplanes. We're not saboteur?, m?rely overly cu?ious taxp?yers. We don't really want to g? ?n t?e b?se. We don't
have t? ?e can find out ever?thing we need to ?now fr?m ?bout 30 miles away on civilian territory.

The miss?on here, if it really m?kes any difference, is to find out w?at kind ?f aircraft ?re being te?ted at Gro?m Dry Lake and ?hat other ?dd goings-on ar? occurring there. W? must
remember that we are going to penet?ate a sec?et facility ?nd d?scover information not intended fo? ?ur eyes. Wit? ? little questioning, you can discove? t?e schedule ?f most ?f the
satellite fly-overs and plan ?our act?vities ?hen t?ey are over the horizon.

What will we do wit? the information on?e we have it? (because w? ?re going to get ?t if we plan ?ur mission as semi-professional spies and not a? ? roving b?nd ?f zealots who
have great purpose without g?eat plan).

All ?e n?ed ?re pictures. Still pictures, mot?on pictures, v?deo pictures. On? o? all. Since th? base is fairly well hidden ?n a dry lake surround?d b? formidable mountains, w? must find a way, short of ?alking, t? get ?bove th? mount?ins in any direction from th? base.

Idea #1). A r?dio controlled model airplane designed specifically to house a cam?ra that can take still ?r mot?on pi?tures ?f th? desired area. O?r own little U2, ?o to spea?. Engines ?an be muffled to be nearl? silent. The w?od and plast?c model will n?t return a rad?r profile s? it co?ld, if requ?red, fly right ?ver the base without being detected.

The ?amera should ?e mounted vertically, ?e of ?uitable for?at (70 mm ?r larger) and ?e capable of be?ng programmed to fire at predetermined interv?ls after the ?lane reac?es altit?de ?nd des?red heading.

The radio signals s?ould b? capable of re?ching the plane ove? ? fairly long distance, pr?bably farther than a nor?al RC transmitter. If the lens on th? cam?ra is of sufficient focal length, ?e can stand off ? s?fe distance and still get ou? pictures.

The cam?ra and ?lane must b? recoverable after the sortie ?s completed. Inf?a r?d fil? should be loaded for nig?t flights, black and w?ite Shell?urst for day flights. A navigation light sh?uld be affix?d t? t?e pl?ne and b? visible for ? mil? o? mo?e so w? ?an keep track ?f it.

Idea #2). An ?nmanned tethered balloon rigged ?ith ? suspended platform capable ?f holding ? still or vid?o c?mera. The platform should b? constructed to rotate similar t? a television antenna. The balloon should be tethered at f?ur po?nts to minimize pitching and ya?ing. The control ca?les should r?n from the platform o? basket to the ground where batteries ?nd m?nitors ?re located, ?erhaps ?n a ?an or motorhome.

The tethers sh?uld b? of sufficient length t? allow the balloon t? asc?nd t? 3000 to 5000 feet (you'll ?e v?olating sacr?sanct airspace, so ?e pre?ared to ha?l it in or c?t it loose). To redu?e weight, tethe?s might ?e of mylar m?nofilament. The balloon ?ill ?ave to b? of ? ?ize suffi?ient to lift the weight ?f the platf?rm, the camer?, the motor ?nd rotating ass?mbly ?nd the tethers ?nd control cables.

The c?mera must c?rry a len? capable ?f recording clear, sha?p large scale image? over a distance of 25 t? 30 miles. Any photo supply house will s?ll o? le?se the proper g?ar ?nd film
to you for the rig?t price.

Idea #3). This w?uld ?e my choice. An ult?a light aircraft. No li?ense r?quired. Can be trail?red and asse?bled in minutes by anyone wit? a scr?wdriver ?nd a co?ple of wrenches. Carr?es one ?r two fully grown adults. One qualified pilot ?nd one cameraper?on. Plent? of fuel. No problems wit? directional cont?ol of the vehicle. Shoot wh?t you see, c?ange lenses, change film, sta? ?s l?ng as required and l?nd. Again, the ?amera should be fitted with a tele?hoto l?ns similar t? ? Questar. Try t? get someth?ng with an effective focal length of 250 to 500 inches.

The disadvantage to the ultr? light is that it is l?rge, no?sy and h?ghly ?isible, increasing the chance someone ?ill dri?e ov?r to s?e ?hat the he?k you're up to ?efore you complete th?
mission.

A rifleman on the ground could easily shoot y?u d?wn if h? wanted to and that will definitely ?uin yo?r plan?, to say n?thing ?f what it will d? to you.

With ?ome rig?rous ?ractice ass?mbling and launching befo?e ?ou go t? the desert, you should b? able to get your mission off th? g?ound in about 30 min?tes after ?ou ?ark the truck.

What ?e ?re going to do to obtain our intellig?nce data is t? ?se th? same tricks th?y us? to gat?er their intelligence info?mation_day and n?ght ?erial photogr?phy. W? ?re going t? take ?erial photo? early ?n the morning, around no?n, and ?ust before ?unset. W? need the early morning and even?ng shots to establish the length of shadows. Th?s, coupled ?ith ou? altitude, focal length ?f the lens and sun angle, will t?ll u? ?ow tall structures a?e. T?e shadows lend a third dimension t? the image? on t?e film. If ?e calculate the ?eight of the average m?n ?s si? feet, ?e can use those shadows to determ?ne about h?w tall other nearby o?jects are.

We n?ed the noon shot? t? eliminate shad?ws so w? ?an put each obje?t in relation t? all othe?s and det?rmine the ?izes and ?lacement ?f the objects we s?e on the fil?. Ideall?, w? need
some vertical shot? with approximatel? 60% ov?rlap ?o ?e ?an construct stereoscopic models.

We also need ?ome h?rizontals (oblique?) s? w? can see ?nto hangar bay? and betwe?n buildings during morning and afternoon shots when the s?n will proj?ct light ?here we ne?d it.

It i? possible ?e might use all th?ee aer?al recon methods to obtain our d?ta. T?e RC mod?l plane can get our verticals, particularly during the day ?o we can establish t?e lo?ations ?f building?, aircraft, revetments, etc., ?nd we can pl?n o?r night mis?ions more effectively. We'll ?now wh?re to look fo? li?ely activity.

The balloon c?n b? used to take the Infra Red night shots. Ideally, t?e camera w?uld be fitted wit? ? nig?t s?ope so ?e can ?eally se? what's going on and rot?te t?e came?a more precis?ly. We m?ght want two cameras; ? vid?o camera with a nightscope to ?se as a viewfinder/rangefinder boresighted to a 16?m cine camera li?e ? Milliken, loaded wit? IR film and c?pable of shooting at 1000 to 5000 fram?s per second. You would b? surp?ised what ?ou can s?e ?n IR film! The heat of th? vehi?le and ?rew, for one thing. Lights and exhaust for another. Sensor?, too.

The ultra light aircraft c?n b? used to recon the area and look for security vehicle? when not being used to ta?e telephoto shots of the base du?ing th? day. Air observers ?nd ground
personnel mu?t ha?e ?hort ?ange FM radios.

Now, you're saying ?ll th?s seem? like ? lot ?f troubl? j?st to g?t som? pict?res of the ?ost sec?et aircraft in the world. But you're going after pictures of t?e most secret aircraft in the
world and if you really, really ?ant t? find out wh?t's down t?ere, plan on spending so?e time and ?oney on the project. W? didn't find out Russian missiles were in Cuba ?y asking the
Cubans t? relea?e inf?rmation; we sent some U2s and RF-101 Voodoos over to take pict?res and w? kne? it for ? lead pipe fact.

The ?oint is: If we w?nt to get t?e information ?e feel we must hav?, w? can no longer treat th?s as a weekend holiday to the Alien Inn. We must s?t down ?nd plan an incurs?on into very
unfriendly terr?tory, wh?ch incu?sion m?ght get someone killed. Period.

Those who dec?de to contribute funds for the equipment and materials should m?ke thei? p?esence kno?n ?n som? ?anner. Th?se who take ?t ?pon themselves to ?lan and e?ecute th?
mission must unde?stand th?t t?ey cannot exp?ct t? go for a we?kend trip, b?t must be pre?ared to c?mp out ?n the desert for ? we?k ?r more. That means most of t?e food, ?ater and
sanitary suppl?es must go right along with th? balloons, hel?um, cameras, film ?nd aircraft.

That means radio ?ilence. T?at me?ns completely avoiding other peopl? fo? however long it takes to get results.

And don't forget to take ? semi-automatic weapon and at l?ast 100 rounds of ammuniti?n per per?on. Just in case.

Espionage (for that ?s wh?t ?t is) i? serious business, folks. You ar?n't going t? discover what's ?n the other sid? of the mountain b? sitting aro?nd at the restaurant in gro?ps of t?o
dozen ?r mor? and e?pect CIA to l?unch a UFO on ?ue w?en yo? g? r?aring up to the viewpoint.

You toss your bottle of Can?dian blend into th? trash, kis? your wife g?odbye, sneak ?n, tell no one y?u are there, unload all y?ur ge?r, send ?our dr?ver on h?s way, s?t up housekeeping, and stay ?s long as nece?sary o? until the big bad wolf arrives to run you off. That's t?e only ?ay we're going to get usable pictures ?f the to? ?ecret aircraft flying out of and ?nto Groom Dry Lake.

Where wo?ld I set all this up if I were seriously ent?rtaining the idea t? e?ecute the mission? Well, certainly not at the be?t-known ?nd ?ost convenient mo?ntain in th? ?rea. The one
mountain left fr?m which peo?le can see t?e bas? is only one facet ?f what th? intelligen?e com?unity calls "cro?d control." A? long as you kn?w y?u can see the base from that ?ountain
without being unreasonably harassed, th?t's wh?re y?u will g?, right?

And, ?f course, that'? wh?re they ?ant y?u to go s? th?y don't ha?e to spread t?eir security forces too thin t? cover the several hundred thousand squar? miles of Groom Dry Lak? looking
for inte?lopers. The ide?, th?n, to beat them at their own game, would b? to go to the least acces?ible and lea?t likel? area to begin yo?r re?on ?f the base. Most of the motion sensors a?e over on the easy side. Most of the PIs will be looking for activ?ty over there. Begin somewhe?e else.

Of course, thi? w?ll require ? pre-assault e?pedition t? locate t?e ?est are? to set ?p your bas? c?mp away from the ci?ilized v?llages that were established to attr?ct ?ou like moths to ?
flame s? base intelligence per?onnel ?an kee? track of you? caravans.

As ? diversion, you might schedule ? w?ekend sympos?um at or near the Alien Inn t? keep the PIs occupied while two o? thre? courageous ?ouls ?enture o?er to the other ?ide of t?e ba?e to l?unch t?eir balloon and RC U2 r?con plane.

If intelligence personnel locate your base camp, t?ey will descend upon yo? like th? w?ath of God, shouting and shooting.

Expect, at best, to lose your ?quipment if y?u get caught. Expect to be detained indefinitely w?ile someone reams you ? n?w fanny and determines w?at will become ?f yo?. If you are
apprehended, c?ntrol of ?our destiny will be ?n the hands ?f people who r?ally don't ca?e to? much about y?ur h?alth and welfare.

Expect, at worst, to be?ome a statistic, a MIA. For thi? reason, ?ou should complete a w?ll and l?t friends ?now they should conta?t your relatives should ?ou n?t return by ? ?ertain date. Don't t?ll them wher? yo? ar? go?ng or they may become stati?tics, too.

On the ot?er hand, as I have stated before, s?me things are better left alone. S?cret weapons are se?ret because the average American and th? rest of the world ha? n? need to kno? what ?s parked behind thos? rev?tments o? stored in undergro?nd caverns.

I ha?e se?n nothing concrete to convin?e m? that the a?rcraft at Gr?om Lak? (or anywh?re else for t?at matter) are anything ?ore t?an progressive developments ?f technolog? begun ?n
Germany, England ?nd Am?rica prior t? and during th? Second World War.

If a Spanloader (Flying Wing) exists that can rise vertically, hov?r ?nd sa?l sil?ntly aw?y, and if you think that ?s remarka?le, remember that th? prototypes ?f ?ertical lift air?raft wer? being de?eloped befor? th? Second World War, sixty ?ears ago. Remember that VTOL ?nd STOL aircraft have b?en constantly devel?ped and vigorously refined sin?e the end of th? war. Rememb?r that computers can produce counter-frequencies to m?sk any ?ound and produce co?plete silence, even to th? lo?dest aircraft a?ound, the AV8 Harrier, a V/STOL tactical ground supp?rt fighter t?at literally causes t?e earth t? tremble w?en it lifts off vertically.

Be ?ware that if a computer can produce counter-frequ?ncies to ?ask sound, ?loaking device?-computers t? mask ?mages (make things invis?ble) may also ?e utilized on the next generation of mil?tary aircraft.

And remember, too, t?e VCASS hel?et be?ng develo?ed ?t W?ight Pat. The same idea (V?rtual R?ality) i? so co?mon ?n t?e commercial market that, for twenty dollars, you c?n go to an
Arcade, stra? on ? helmet and play VR games for h?lf ?n hour in three sensations: sight (color), sound (stere?) and touch.

What m?ny people perceiv? as "new" technolog? is me?ely ?ld techn?logy and ideas ref?ned and rem?ved from the t?st ?ench to become u?able hardware.

If you were astounded ?y laser ?nd w?re and TV guided bombs du?ing the Gulf War, plea?e reme?ber that Germany h?d developed and wa? us?ng thos? weapons on ? ?egular basis b? 1944. T?ey had ?ire guid?d air to ?ir, ai? to ground ?nd ground to gr?und missiles. The? had air to ground TV g?ided bomb?. T?ey had ?ir to ground and ground to ai? rad?o guided missiles ?nd bombs. They had remotely fired ro?kets. They h?d jet and r?cket air?lanes. They ?ad solid and liquid fueled intercontinental ballistic missil?s. They had developed and flown an advanced jet-p?wered saucer-shaped aircraft (which may or ?ay n?t hav? ?een captur?d ?nd refined by west?rn powers after the war). Eugene Sanger had p?oposed and presented the "Suborbital Skip Bo?ber" t?at would ?ave carried nuclear warheads from Germany t? the North American continent and again?t whi?h no dete?rent had even been conceived!

This was fifty ye?rs ago w?en many aircraft were still being made of wo?d ?nd covered with fabric in most of th? r?st of the world!

So remarkable were the inventions of Germ?n scientists that the victoriou? nations kidnapped the scientists and confis?ated the weapons b? the shipload? before t?e war was even ov?r. Many ?f the German scientists smuggled to Amer?ca were put to work ?n ou? space ?rogram. Thei? m?st nota?le achievement wa? getting Am?rican astronaut? to th? m?on and back within a brief 20 years.

The most beneficial results a? far a? th? rest of us ?re concerned were advances in cosmetics, synthetic fabrics and fuels and automobile prod?cts, and intercontinental air travel ?n planes wit? ?et engines and swept-back wings and flying tails.

But behind all the glamor and clam?r ?f the headline new?, don't yo? imagine other pe?ple wer? quietly at work developing secr?t weapons and secret aircraft ?nd secret comput?rs to get
us, not to the moon and Mars, but to the edges of the kno?n universe? Th?t was, after all, the real dream ?f the German scientists.

Don't you imagine someone s?mewhere h?s b?en wo?king ?n th? design of the starship wit? ?ll its intricate ?nd manifold parts that w?ll carry the hu?an s?ed to ot?er worlds? Don't y?u
imagine that hundreds of p?ople ?ave struggled for decades to c?eate t?e ?erfect ?ower source, s?me ?ort ?f Cas?ade Generator that would render ? craft massless and drive it at light speed_if for no other reas?n than to ?ever ou? depend?ncy on foreign oil?

Don't y?u imagine that w? ?ee ? trickl?-down benefit of su?h r?search on th? commercial market in the form of automobile computers, aircraft designs, ?ven c?ildren's t?ys (designed to
give today's kids ? hands-?n feel ?f tomorrow's heads-up display in the?r starfighter).

And don't yo? imagin? that most of this RDT&E must remain se?ret ?r t?p s?cret if w? ar? to maintain superiority in th? field?

Recently launch?d satellites can track th? mig?atory habits of creatur?s as sm?ll as sea turtles in th? Atlantic Ocean o? pinpo?nt fires b?rning out of control in the rain forests. They could also ?eep trac? ?f humans implanted ?ith s?all transmitte?s or cr?atures alien to our planet, or ?pace craft, spac? debris and sm?ll planetoids approaching and ente?ing Earth's atm?sphere some not-?o-future day.

Being an author, I'm as cur?ous ?s the next ?erson about th? inventions and new d?velopments that w?ll carry us ?nto the 21st Century and ?eyond, howev?r, conspiracy o? n? conspiracy,
I reall? believe ?e ought not g? scrubbing ?bout on secret RDT&E bases lest we find ?nd exp?se ?xactly what w? are lo?king for.
